"The know-how is crucial, but with these changes, we have to start almost from scratch," he explains. "It's an engineer's dream to have a clean slate and design a bike from the ground up."

As Ducati aims to catch up with Aprilia in the current championship, the focus is also on the future. The upcoming private test at the Red Bull Ring in September will provide a glimpse into the 850cc prototype era, with race riders putting the new machines through their paces.
