Chinese design studio FOG Architecture has crafted a tranquil oasis in the bustling city of Beijing, offering visitors a multi-sensory escape from daily life. The YUSPA spa, located in the vibrant Sanlitun shopping district, is a testament to the studio's innovative approach to interior design, where subtle transitions in lighting and materials create a warm and immersive experience.
A Multi-Sensory Haven
FOG Architecture's design philosophy revolves around guiding customers into a state of deep relaxation and immersion. Instead of a mere 'quiet place', the spa aims to create a multi-sensory experience, stimulating the senses in a harmonious rhythm. The journey begins with a long entrance corridor, leading to a captivating water feature and a carefully curated product display area.
The Art of Lighting and Materials
Lighting plays a pivotal role in this project, serving as the primary design tool. In the public areas, bright lights illuminate the products, creating a vibrant atmosphere. As visitors venture deeper into the spa, the lighting gradually dims, with only the floor illuminated in the most intimate spaces, fostering a sense of seclusion and tranquility. Sheer curtains and electric sliding doors act as partitions, controlling light and ensuring privacy without isolating spaces.
The materials used throughout the spa are carefully selected to create a harmonious balance of warm and cool tones. A concrete base provides a solid foundation, while copper accents add a touch of elegance and warmth. Wooden furniture softens the overall ambiance, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
