This watch is a revival of a signature biretrograde complication, co-patented by Roger Dubuis and Jean-Marc Wiederrecht in 1989. The Excalibur Biretrograde Calendar is a simpler version of the double retrograde QP, but it retains the signature retrograde aesthetic associated with Roger Dubuis. The brand's latest creation is a sportier take on the Excalibur Biretrograde, with a compact 40mm x 11.25mm stainless steel case that exudes power and visual impact. The case features a notched bezel, crown guards, and chunky, sharply tapering triple lugs, all highlighted with polished, shotblasted, and satin-brushed surfaces. The dial of the Excalibur Biretrograde Calendar is a masterpiece of design. It features a predominant "Cosmic Blue" colour scheme with silver accents, creating a striking contrast. The intense blue colour is featured on the snailed flange, which hosts applied rhodium-plated hour markers with white Super-LumiNova inserts. The flange also conceals the pivoting points of the two retrograde hands, adding to the complexity of the design. The arcing retrograde scales, with day-of-the-week indication on the left and the date on the right, are silver-toned and sun-brushed, with black inscriptions and red dots. The skeletonised hands with red tips further enhance the readability of the retrograde display.
The central plate is also a Cosmic Blue colour, with a small seconds counter at 6 o'clock and a matching disc at noon, inscribed with "Biretrograde Calendar" and the Poinçon de Genève shield. The time is indicated by white gold hour and minute hands with SLN inserts. The movement, powered by the RD840 calibre, is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. It is an automatic movement with a biretrograde display, 4.1mm thick, and 28,800vph / 4Hz frequency. The movement features 244 components, 40 jewels, and a 60-hour power reserve. It is decorated with 14 different finishing techniques and bears the Poinçon de Genève seal, ensuring its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
