UPPER MERION TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Commuters who rely on Route 202 in Montgomery County should brace for persistent traffic disruptions over the coming months.

A segment of the southbound carriageway in Upper Merion Township is shut down to facilitate repairs of recurring sinkholes.

The southbound stretch of Route 202 between Prince Frederick Boulevard and Henderson Road is being redirected via Saulin Boulevard.

PennDOT indicates that work on Route 202 West Dekalb Pike is projected to continue into late fall.

During the remediation, contractors will inject pressurized grout into drilled holes to stabilize the subsurface and prevent further sinkhole formation.

Route 202 northbound traffic had reopened in November 2025 after eight months of construction aimed at addressing the same sinkhole issue.

The overall project is budgeted at approximately $22 million.
